Sustainability Strategist with a Focus on Environmental Sustainability

You like structure. And are full of ideas. Just like us.

Do you want to work strategically with climate, environment, and sustainable development close to politics? Then this could be the role for you.

Sundbyberg City is one of Sweden's most expansive municipalities. Here we work together to create a sustainable and inclusive city for everyone who lives, works, and visits here. We are now looking for a sustainability strategist focused on environmental sustainability who wants to contribute to a long-term sustainable Sundbyberg.

You will be part of an organization characterized by collaboration, accountability, and a willingness to develop. We offer a dynamic work environment where your skills and ideas make a real difference.

About the Position

You will be part of the administrative staff responsible for the overall work of the municipal group with strategic goal and operational management. The staff also works with issues related to environmental and social sustainability and provides investigative and administrative support to the city director and deputy city director. The work is led by the head of the staff.

As a sustainability strategist focused on environmental sustainability, you will lead, manage, and follow up the municipality's work for a long-term sustainable Sundbyberg. You will work strategically with issues related to climate and energy, sustainable urban development, circular economy, transportation, and how digitalization can contribute to reduced environmental impact.

In this role, you have a central function in developing sustainable procurement by establishing and following up on sustainability requirements, developing common working methods, and spreading knowledge within the organization. The assignment is based on politically established goals and aims to ensure the implementation of the Program for a Sustainable Sundbyberg – Local Agenda 2030 throughout the municipal group.

The role involves close collaboration with colleagues in other political areas, both within social and environmental sustainability, to strengthen the overall perspective and contribute to cohesive and effective governance.

You will independently handle, investigate, and present cases, as well as produce reports, decision-making materials, and governance documents. The assignment also includes responding to referrals and participating in the city's central crisis management work.

Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this role, we see that you have an academic degree in environmental science or other education/competence that the employer deems relevant for the position. You have experience working in a municipal or other politically governed organization and have a good understanding of the conditions and requirements of the political decision-making process. You have an excellent ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

It is strongly meritorious if you have worked with public procurement and have an understanding of how public procurement can contribute to an environmentally sustainable society. It is also meritorious if you have worked to create, maintain, and further develop environmental management systems or have driven business development and change management in medium-sized organizations.

Personal Qualities

To succeed in this role, you are structured and analytical, with the ability to see the whole picture and assess the consequences of actions in both the short and long term. You are stable and remain calm even in demanding situations.

You are collaborative and have an easy time creating and maintaining good relationships, both internally and externally. You are ambitious, set high goals for yourself, and work purposefully to achieve them. At the same time, you are curious and continuously keep yourself updated in your field through environmental monitoring and learning.

What We Offer You

With us, you will have a meaningful assignment in a socially important organization as well as a secure employment with collective agreements and good conditions.

We offer flexible working hours, the possibility of some remote work, generous wellness benefits, company bicycles, and vacation exchange. You will work in a modern city hall with very good communication, which creates good conditions for a balance between work, health, and leisure.
